What good touch controls look like in strategy games
Strategy games were born on mouse and keyboard, and porting that to a thumb is where many mobile titles fall apart. The good ones rethink the interface instead of shrinking it.
Confirmation on big actions is underrated. Selling a tower or spending a large reserve should not happen from a single mis-tap near a wave. The games I trust ask a quick yes, and I never resent the extra tap.
Speed controls matter too. A pause and a fast forward turn a slow crawl into a game you can play in short bursts. If I cannot pause mid wave to think, a phone strategy game loses a lot of its appeal.
When you try a new title, judge it by its worst moment, not its calmest. Can you act cleanly when the screen is full and everything is moving? If yes, the developers did the hard part right.
